The Goodman & The Whore

We were on horses
Galloping off course, when
Interrupted by a fool,
A drunk upon his mule,
But how could he ruin what we'd planned to do?
Gallavanting on that unmade bed,
Drinking courage into our timid heads.
But a good man such as you
Shouldn't be made to a fool
By such a wretched, reckless whore...
Please forgive me sir,
It is not my place to place my heart on exhibition.
I am aware that a gentleman of such stature
Should never dare to fall in love with such a whore.
Throw me to the wolves
If you feel that my statements are too bold.
Take to yourself, throwing pity
I'll turn my heels, leave this city;
No one need ever know.
So forgive me sir,
I did not expect you to turn around, and turn it all around.
But if your talk of love is true,
My good sir, there's naught that I can do
But give myself to you.
They're bound to know.
They're bound to disapprove.
They'll never let me walk down their streets
Hand in hand with you.
The pretty fishwife's tongue of silver
Slips like honey through the ears
Of any folk whom she draws near.
And so -
My dear -
We slip like water.
Undercover of a sheet of stars
To guide us out of here.
Take my hand and run with me
Across the glen and through the trees
And rid ourselves of these clothes,
No longer shall we need these;
No longer shall we hide our hearts inside our sleeves
And they'll sing:
"Lally oodel-lally oodle-ay, oh,
Lally oodel-lally oodle-ay;
Had the world seen real love before today?"
So forgive me good sir,
Don't you worry yourself
With my petty dreams...
Oh, I have never known what love is,
And will never know what love is,
And I'll never have to hurt you the way it's haunting me...

There Were Four

Oh my dear
I fear
The end of the world is drawing near.
And I'd love to believe in your love
But when the time arrives,
Would you still be here?
When you kissed upon my lips
Would you linger on the taste of that rust
That has reappeared?
When the dark clouds arise
Will you flee from the skies?
Are you scared we may share the same fear?
There's a hound on the horizon
Howling as the thunder claps down on this earth
And splits the world in two
Oh, my ears are pounding
I can't hear above the chaos of our impending doom
They're coming for me...
And the wicked will fall,
So when that time comes
Will you be there to pick me back up off the floor?
Will you see through my sins to my soul?
Will you love me at all?
"This is futile,
There is no need to put up a fight"
I saw my own future
I saw the world's demise!
There's a hound on the horizon
Howling as the thunder claps down on this earth
And splits the world in two
Oh, my ears are pounding
I can't hear above the chaos of our impending doom
They're coming for me...
And the wicked will fall,
So when that time comes
Will you be there to pick me back up off the floor?
Will you see through my sins to my soul?
Will you love me at all?
There were four men
Upon horseback that watched
As my world fell to chaos
And callousness reigned
Whilst they waited,
With patience,
Looking down with malice
A fire in their eyes as the dawn shed it's skin
So I held up my hands to the sky...
In surrender, and screamed out
"I am ready to go.
I am ready to leave.
This world's had enough now -
I'm ever so tired -
And my skin's got too tight for me to breathe...
So come and take me"
But then your fingers weaved through mine
And the world was reborn in a glorious night.
For I felt alive, that you are alive
